Week 1 - MBA 6601 - Using AI to Redesign a Company's Logo

I thought it would be interesting to redesign a company's logo using AI. The logo I chose to redesign is from StormTrap, a stormwater management company I have worked for over the last two years. StormTrap provides solutions for managing runoff, protecting waterways, and improving property usage. This involves detention, infiltration, water quality, and other treatment solutions provided by a wide range of product offerings. My interest and understanding of the company is what made me interested in redesigning its logo specifically.

Currently, StormTrap's logo is a grey box which represents the company's modular concrete stormwater management products. It appears to have blue water inside the box which is outlined in such a way that reads "ST" for "StormTrap". The image has clear edges and shadows, is easy to understand, and utilizes a nice color scheme.

To redesign StormTrap's logo, I began by experimenting with MS Designer. As this was my first time using the program, I simply typed "StormTrap" to indicate the kind of image I would like generated. I imagined MS Designer  would understand I was referring to the company, and that it would create images similar to StormTrap's current logo. However, it came up with many different options, mostly images of storms and dark color schemes. An example is below which depicts a storm, simple shape artwork, and "StormTrap" written cross the bottom.

I thought it was interesting how the program took the word "storm" and utilized storm images as opposed to images from the company itself. I tried a few more methods to create a more realistic logo for StormTrap. This included experimenting with and tweaking phrases like "a logo for a storm water company" and "grey storm blue water." I also tried adding images to the search to see what the program would generate.

This is certainly a helpful tool for creating images that could perhaps be used for StormTrap's website. While I was happy to investigate this platform, I did not find it helpful for creating a StormTrap logo as I had in mind. Therefore, I decided to investigate a different tool called logomaster.ai. This program was simple to use as I followed a series of steps including selecting the entity type (personal, business, etc.), color scheme, company information, and icons. From there, many logos were generated that I could select from and edit further if necessary. I chose the image below as StormTrap's redesigned logo.

This tool was certainly helpful and did a great job at creating an effective logo design. While similar to StormTrap's current box logo, it is a much simplier design. This is important as there seems to be a trend nowadays for company's to have simple logos as opposed to complex ones. I also like the color scheme and emphasis of "trap" in the name.

Overall, it was interesting to investiage these AI tools. There are certainly many ways they can be used, and it was nice to be able to compare them. These are just a few of the many helpful AI tools available to use for a wide range of projects.

Week 5 - MBA 6601 - Midjourney for Creating AI Images

I recently discovered an AI-based image generator by Midjourney. As a relatively artistic person, I quickly became interested in exploring this tool's capabilities. What initally sparked my interest was the art I saw posted by Generative AI on LinkedIn. The page shares images that users had created in Midjourney including a chonky Chipmunk and "what-if" scenario if Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart had a family. It's funny that such different photos could have one thing in common, that is, artificial intelligence! AI can clearly make a wide range (if not limitless) style and type of art. Not only that, but the tool can create something factitious that appears to be real. As it continues improving, I am sure the AI-based images will fool many into thinking it produced an authentic image. According to its website,  Midjourney is "an independent research lab exploring new mediums of thought and expanding the imaginative powers of the human species." You can...

Week 8 - MBA 6601 - TikTok and AI

One thing I gave up over this past Lent was watching TikTok videos. I had the app for a while but found myself watching its content more and more often. It became an addiction. It is such a powerful tool, and I know the program displayed personalized content for me in hopes it would keep me watching. That is why I decided to take some time away from it - so I could focus on other things in my life instead of just watching videos. Surprisingly, after giving up TikTok over Lent I never went back to it. And I haven't thought about it much since. However, that doesn't mean it hasn't popped up again in my life. Recently, I came across a couple interesting articles about TikTok and AI. As with many other companies, TikTok is testing AI tools and technologies. Check out this article by The Verge  on the new TikTok "Tako" that is still in the testing phase. The idea is users can ask it to provide recommendations on what to watch, for example. As mentioned in the article, ...

Week 3 - MBA 6601 - Hootsuite's OwlyWriter AI

I currently work in the marketing department for a small company. One of my responsibilities is creating content for our social media pages. This includes writing posts for projects, upcoming events and webinars, reposts, holidays, and anything else relevant to our industry. I have familiarized myself with the company's writing style, such as how we format posts for sharing projects and our professionalism when creating holiday posts. Recently, I discovered that I can use AI to assist in the creation of social media posts. I no longer have to come up with the content by myself each time. Rather, I can use AI to generate ideas and provide me with inspiration. I utilize Hootsuite  for creating and scheduling social media content. The company recently devloped a new tool, OwlyWriter AI, that assists in the process of creating social media content. There are options for repurposing posts, getting inspiration, and generating captions, among others. It is easy to select a tool from OwlyW...
